House; Sigyn -- Kindness is Fluttershy's element. Very shy and always willing to help (when she can), Fluttershy would thrive in a compassionate house ruled by someone of equally compassionate stature.
Power; Growth

Personality; Fluttershy is the kindest pony in Ponyville. A pegasus with a light yellow coat and long, flowing pink mane and tail, she gives off an air of grace and sweetness everywhere she goes. Unlike most pegasi, Fluttershy stays close to the ground as opposed to living in the sky in the primarily-pegasus area of Equestria known as Cloudsdale. This is due to the fact that she really isn't a skilled flier like most of the other pegasi who assume the job of being weatherponies. She lives in a small cottage in the forest and appears to be the caretaker of many woodland (and other not-so-woodland) creatures. She has a close friendship with Rarity and she is praised for being one of the most graceful and beautiful ponies in Ponyville (by Rarity's very high standards, no less).

Her surface characteristics make her out to be a generally sweet and loving pony, but there is a reason for the "shy" in her name. Fluttershy is initially shown to be extremely soft-spoken and equally shy when she meets Twilight. She's SO shy, in fact, that she is reduced to shaking in fear from just talking to her. She barely manages to get her name out in anything other than a whisper and makes the whole situation awkward for everyone. This is a theme with her. Her shyness can seem almost crippling at times-- Rainbow Dash described her as being afraid of her own shadow. Quite literally. When she became a famous fashion model, Fluttershy found that the designer LIKED her traits and used them to be the new face of Equestrian fashion. This backfired for Fluttershy and she became so afraid and nervous every time that she went on stage that she came to the conclusion that she didn't want to be a model anymore. Being quiet and staying relatively out the way is easy for her based on a lot of what she went through as a filly. She was bullybait when she was younger, going to Summer Flight Camp with Rainbow Dash in order to make herself stronger and more sociable.

This... Ultimately failed as she was very tall and awkward for a filly her age, falling all over herself and becoming a laughing stock for the entire camp and earning herself a nickname: "Klutzershy". When Rainbow Dash stood up for her and challenged her bullies to a race, Fluttershy fell out of the clouds and onto the ground, where she was greeted with what would be her trademark-- a pile of butterflies who carried her through the forest and showed her that she did have a place where she belonged and could be herself. Here, it wasn't considered bad for her to be shy around the animals she met because that's what they needed to come out and trust her.

History aside, Fluttershy grew up to have many talents. Namely, she is Ponyville's key animal caretaker. She is shown to care for her animals as well as help other ponies find loving homes for them. She isn't the type to "pride" heself in anything and is very humble when it comes to helping out her friends and strangers alike. She sees it as a service to others and not to herself and it takes a lot of her own courage to face her fears of being outwardly social. Her knowledge of the fauna of Equestria has come in handy many times in the series. In one example, she tries to help the Princesses's sick bird and does everything that she can to nurse her back to health before the Princess notices that she's gone. She feels like an utter failure when the bird is reduced to nothing but ash, feeling that she killed it even if she did everything that she had practiced when taking care of other animals. When Fluttershy finds that the bird was actually a phoenix that rose from its ashes and joined its owner again, she is praised for her persistence and caring nature when it came to something that looked serious. In fact, Spike the baby dragon was the only thing that could pull her out of her shell when she first met Twilight. She had never seen one before and got very excited when she met him. Animals make her comfortable!

Out of the six elements, Fluttershy represents kindness. This is, obviously, her key positive trait. Fluttershy never feels any spite towards anypony and will do everything that she can to extend a hoof to someone in need. In the pilot, Twilight learns that the shy pony she had first met is an exceptional master of empathy when the gang is confronted by a manticore. Her general lack of confidence is set aside when Fluttershy confronts the creature on her own (when none of the braver ponies even wanted to) and finds that there is a thorn in its paw that is making it so cranky. When she pulls it out, the creature is reduced to almost a kitten who even thanks Fluttershy by grooming her mane. Twilight asks how she knew there was a thorn in its paw and Fluttershy admits that she had no idea what was wrong with it-- but that everyone needs to be shown a little kindness. Fluttershy also has a strong resolve when it comes to finding the good in people. She is the only pony who isn't easily manipulated by Discord because she doesn't feel that any of her friends would betray her and that she would never do something to hurt them. He actually has to go the extra mile and hypnotize her just to get her to become a mean, brutish douche of a pony for his game.

While she certainly isn't an assertive pony by any means, Fluttershy has been shown to have her own personality pushed to the point of extremes. When she gets frustrated, she will go to any length to get what she wants. The most famous case being making friends in the garden with the animals at the Gala. When they run and hide from her, she sets up traps just so she will have them to talk to and she canmake them love her. This ruins her experience at the Gala for her while her friends have it ruined for them in their respective ways. While that is really extreme, Fluttershy's frustrations will build and build until she "explodes". She will vent these frustrations in the quietest way imaginable-- an itty bitty whispery scream. She has also threatened to buck at something out of anger and only tapped it with her hoof.

Similarly, she will not stand for anyone hurting her friends. While she is afraid of adult dragons, Fluttershy witnesses the one she was DRAGGED UP A MOUNTAIN to see in order to clear the skies of Equestria harming her friends and flies ALL THE WAY UP TO ITS NOSE and stares it straight in the eyes, giving it a rather famous lecture about even if you're big and mean, you will NOT get away with hurting her friends. This is delivered with a strong tone of voice and a growl that is so very un-Fluttershy. But it gets the job done and then apologizes to it for the outburst and tells the dragon to kindly leave everyone alone and stop scaring people. Which... it does. And the day is saved thanks to her. And while she isn't the most talented of flying ponies, when she is determined to do something, she is able to outflyRainbow Dash. It takes a whole lot of pushing but Fluttershy can overcome her fears and be a stronger pony when under the right circumstances.

Fluttershy's other talents include "The Stare", which she uses to tame animals by looking them sternly in the eyes to get them to do what she wants. She is also shown to have an extensive knowledge of fashion and sewing (to Rarity's surprise) and a beautiful singing voice.

Bringing it all together now! Fluttershy is a timid and shy pony with a kind disposition and a love for her friends. She finds comfort in animals and the quiet things in life, but will fiercely defend her friends if she is driven to doing so. While she may not be a perfect example of a pegasus pony, she makes up for it with her many other talents that make her kind and beautiful heart shine through to everyone she meets.
